A voice for young children

BUILD SlideshowThe BUILD Initiative, launched by some of the Nation’s leading early childhood foundations, supports state leaders in their work to develop a comprehensive system of programs, policies and services that serve the needs of young children and their families. BUILD convenes learning communities that help education policymakers collaborate on priority issues, like meeting the needs of early learners whose home language is not English.

These leaders are developing and advancing important reforms in tough political climates. But developing effective messages and managing pushback isn’t second-nature.

Meeting the need

We helped the BUILD Initiative prepare a training workshop aimed at helping policymakers build persuasive messages. Leaders who are passionate about their work don’t have time for cookie-cutter presentations, so we worked with BUILD to ensure that the training content resonated with participants’ own work.

Collaborating with the BUILD team, we crafted a message guide designed to help policymakers manage pushback on dual-language learning. With recommended messages ready to go, participants could spend the session learning and sharing, not taking notes. And we delivered the presentation as a webinar, maximizing cost-effectiveness for BUILD and accessibility for busy policymakers.
