Case Study: Vermont Network

Working with Springboard was not only a great learning experience, but also great fun. They listened carefully and responded to our context and political realities. The experience taught us how to better describe our work, helped us start new conversations, and helped change the view of our organization by allies and constituents.

Ending Violence Against All Vermonters

Vermont Network rally features new brandThe Vermont Network Against Sexual and Domestic Violence is a statewide coalition that ensures survivors of violence can access essential, community-based services no matter where they live. The Network also advocates for policy reforms and other changes to achieve communities free from violence.

Over time, the Network shifted its focus – believing it could only achieve a violence-free Vermont by changing the conditions perpetuating the cycle of violence. However, its public messaging still reflected its service-delivery past rather than its new direction as a social change agent.

Shifting the Network’s Brand

Springboard Partners worked with the Vermont Network to update its brand and develop new messages to explain their shift to social change.

Branding is more than a logo or a message: it’s an expression of who you are, what you do, why it matters – and how this makes you unique. To help the Vermont Network discover their brand, Springboard led a one-day, interactive workshop with staff. Our work led to a new brand promise to signal the Network’s shift toward prevention and social change: “Uprooting the causes of violence so every last Vermonter thrives.” We also developed a set of core messages the Vermont Network is now using throughout its communication to signal its bold shift.

From there, we developed a new identity package — including a logo and website design — that supports the Vermont Network’s new brand. The visual identity includes a bold, modern color palette that signals the purpose and joy the Network brings to its work. The visual identity is also active and engaging, much like the Vermont Network itself.

Finally, Springboard audited all existing Network communication materials and recommended design and content changes to align these tools to the new positioning. The Vermont Network is now integrating these recommendations throughout its communications.
