Toward a More Responsible Tuna Industry

We recently facilitated a meeting of the Ethical Tuna Collaboration working group. This year-long effort is a collaboration between retailers, seafood companies, and human rights NGOs to design an industry-wide initiative to help address forced labor on tuna vessels. The goal is to improve outcomes for tens of thousands of fishers, by ensuring they don’t go into debt to get a job on a fishing vessel, receive timely wages, and have access to Wi-Fi while at sea to stay in touch with their loved ones and unions.

Focus on Housing Equity

Our friends at the Protecting Immigrant Families Coalition partnered with Texas housing advocates to raise the profile of a regulatory proposal that would evict immigrant families from affordable housing. Read the commentary in the San Antonio Express-News.

Advancing Indigenous-led Stewardship

This spring, Native Americans in Philanthropy (NAP) and Biodiversity Funders Group (BFG) released a white paper highlighting the opportunities for ocean funders and Tribal leaders to better protect biodiversity and support Indigenous-led stewardship of ocean resources. We worked with NAP and BFG on the release strategy for this research offering recommendations and examples to establish the long-term, trust based partnerships for Indigenous-led ocean stewardship.
